1.HubSpot AI spend controls: KEEP (if you run HubSpot for your agency or your clients)
What shipped: HubSpot announced new AI spend controls in a post marked "Updated: October 15, 2026." HubSpot says spend controls are now on by default: it sets an account-level credit limit up to 50% above a customer's monthly credits, which leaves room for more agent work but caps a spike. Customers can now swap seats for credits (or another seat type) themselves without waiting for renewal, and set credit limits at the feature and action level. HubSpot also says it won't move a customer to a bigger plan just because usage grows, and customers can cap their marketing contacts tier (HubSpot). The help article fills in the details (HubSpot Knowledge Base, last updated October 15, 2026):
- The automatic account limit (50% above your total monthly credits) applies after you buy additional credit packs. If you only have included credits, credit-based features pause when those run out until the next reset.
- If you bought extra credits on or after September 16, 2026, overages default to pay-as-you-go. Credits bought before that date default to auto-upgrade to a bigger capacity pack for the rest of the contract.
- Feature-level limits aren't set by default. Action-level limits currently exist only for buyer intent.
Price: Credit packs for a flat monthly rate, or Pay-as-You-Go for usage beyond monthly credits. HubSpot's example: Marketing Hub Professional includes 3,000 credits; add 5,000 and the default limit is 12,000. Unused credits don't roll over (HubSpot Knowledge Base, checked October 17, 2026).
Why it matters: Agents that bill per credit can surprise a client with a big invoice. A default ceiling helps, but the automatic limit only kicks in once you've bought extra credit packs, and feature-level limits are opt-in. Seat-to-credit swaps also mean you can stop paying for idle seats mid-contract.
Do this week: In each HubSpot portal you manage, go to Account & Billing → HubSpot Credits and check three things: Maximum monthly credits, Overage setting (auto-upgrade or pay-as-you-go), and Feature credit limits for any agent you've switched on. Then list unassigned seats you could swap for credits. Steps are in HubSpot's help article.
